MEET GEOFF TURNER
Owner, Turner Projects
Geoff Turner is a Toronto-based building designer with a background in construction, a formal education in residential design, and a lifelong passion for the spaces in which we live, work and play. At the heart of his work is a balance of creativity and precision.
HIS STORY
Geoff's early years were spent creating — drawing, painting, sculpting, playing music and generally imagining things that did not yet exist. As is so often the case, he explored various fields of work, each of which contributed in at least some small way to his professional development.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Carleton University, in Ottawa, Geoff completed a two-year program in residential design and construction at Algonquin College in Perth, Ontario. During his schooling in construction and for several years thereafter, Geoff held a number of positions with residential renovation and custom homebuilding companies, gaining considerable experience in the hands-on part of the business. Never having lost his interest in that which comes before the construction, however, Geoff began concentrating his attention on the design of buildings.
After a few years of part-time work in the field, he studied for and completed the building design examination program administered by the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing in 2020. As such, Geoff is qualified and Turner Projects is registered to provide building design services in Ontario under Subsection 3.2.4. of Division C of the Ontario Building Code 2024 (BCIN: 118315).
HIS APPROACH
Turner Projects exists at the intersection of art, science, and building. Geoff's work integrates an appreciation of form and style with extensive technical knowledge and an intimate familiarity with construction.
Having worked on both sides of the industry, Geoff understands how ideas become structures, and how to bridge the gap between vision and reality. This perspective helps him design with foresight, clarity, and an awareness of what’s feasible, not just what’s ideal.
Geoff values open communication, especially when it comes to helping clients understand both the exciting possibilities and the inevitable constraints — whether in the form of cost, regulations, or structural limits. His goal is always to deliver the best possible outcome under the circumstances.
At his core, Geoff is creative. However, this artistic facet of his personality is tempered by a desire for order and organization. He is meticulous in his performance of almost all tasks, and uncompromising in his pursuit of quality.
